Drawing on research evidence, STEP UP is mobilizing thousands of high school physics teachers to reduce barriers and inspire young women to pursue physics degrees in college. The lesson materials are research-driven and will help shift deep-seated cultural views about who does physics. This workshop will focus on the lessons around careers, women and equity. While the program targets high school physics teachers, science teachers from other disciplines and age groups can put the ideas into action in their classroom. Some of the material would also benefit other underrepresented groups in the sciences, particularly the lesson on equity. Lunch will be provided. The workshop will be led by Vivian O'Brien from Plymouth Regional High School.
